Some six year olds still hate to lose... so tread carefully with competitive kid games for a while yet if necessary.

Keeper of the Keys
The Keeper of the keys - one person sits in the middle of a circle with their eyes closed, at their feet is a bunch of keys which have to be guarded.
Each of the other children in turn have to try and take the keys without being heard/pointed at. Great game for parties! Alison, United Kingdom
Go Fish Go Fish can be used with any pack of cards that have pairs. Each player is dealt 7 cards each. The person starting asks anyone in the group "Do you have a ...?" to find a match for his/her own cards. If the person does, he hands the card over and the pair is laid down on the table.
If the person doesnt have the matching pair, he says, "Go fish" and the other person must pick up a card from the pile. Aim of game is to collect as many pairs as possible. Belle, South Korea
Word treasure Here's a learning how to read activity: I write a word on paper then the children cut it out and put it in a 'treasure box'. Everyday we pull out a word and reapeat it. Estelle, Hungary
Patio chalk Drawing games on the patio with chalk enables the kid to move more and be outdoors while remaining in a fixed area. Girls and boys alike enjoy drawing circles in which a number is inscribed - keep the circles at one end of the patio, then draw a line behind which the child will stand with a ball.
The idea is to throw the ball so as to land in a circle and score points, the highest numbers being the farthest circles from the throwing line. After a decided number of throws, count the points and see whether they can beat their scores as they improve their precision. Roxane, Spain
Who am I? At any time we are playing this. It is "Who am I?" Children of this age generally have knowledge for fruits, vegetables, transport etc.

Kid Games to Play - for kids of five, including Scarecrow Tiggy and a Trampoline Memory game!
Spud Give each kid a number and then throw a ball up and call out a number. The child whose number is called grabs the ball, yells "SPUD!" and all the other kids who had been running away stop. The ball person takes 3 steps to the closest person and tries to hit him. If hit, that child is out. The game goes till one person's left. Ryan, United States
Paper race
Get some old paper, spare paper, and roll it up, when you think you've got enough paper balls you throw them around the floor or garden, then each kid is given a plastic bag and everyone has to run around picking up as many paper balls as they can.
After a certain time (you choose 1 min, 2mins...) everyone has to stop and see who has the most.
You can also write numbers on the papers so maybe someone who has less balls of paper still wins.
Kids have great fun running about and if you want you can give the winner a prize or certificate at the end. Cath, Barcelona
Bridge! On long car journeys we play 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 BRIDGE!! The aim is to start counting backwards from 10 when you see a bridge, and to time it so that you go under the bridge just as you get to zero. The kids love it, and they get really good at judging distance and timing. You can also use it to practise counting to 10 in different languages. Sophie, United Kingdom
Memory game Take 6 everyday items, let your child memorise them, then go into a different room without your child and take one off the tray.
Go into the room with your child and ask them what you moved. Simple! Lucy, United Kingdom
Reverse musical chairs Set up chairs in a circle with seats facing outward. Use same number of chairs as kids (EX: 5 kids and 5 chairs).
Play some music and when you pause/stop the music, all the kids have to sit in a chair.
Next you take away a chair - but not any kids.
So now when you play and then stop/pause the music, 2 kids will end up sharing a chair.
Then you do the same again, take away another chair, but not any kids. You keep taking away chairs until all the kids have to sit on one chair together.
It is a lot of fun! and funny! Even the adults enjoy the game. Also, I like it better than musical chairs because no kid feels like they lost. Gina H, Columbus, IN
Olympic gamez This works great for 6 years and up: can be adjusted for younger age groups as well. Setup 4 - 5 Stations:
1. Skipping Rope - Use second timer to mark down each child's time.
2. Torch Relay - Make torches. Have at least 2 groups of 2 or 3: faster group wins
3. Puzzle Maker - Each contestant does the same puzzle: fastest time wins
4. Twister - last one standing wins
5. Anything competitive can be turned into a Olympic Gamez

Real life charades Act out things that you do in real life, like making pancakes, flossing your teeth, taking the pits out of olives, or shucking oysters.
